Knee high lace up converse in the summertime. This girl has so much style and she is just a kid. I admire young girls who have the attitude and the confidence to look different from everyone else their age.

Name? Jennifer Slater, but I pretty much always go by Jenn
Age? 21
Job/Profession? Child Care Worker, barista, and occasionally a Designer
Hometown? Sacramento
Best fashion advice you received from your parents? Growing up, my mom would always ask me which pair of shoes or earrings look best with what she was wearing. Once I told her she would usually pick the opposite. You have to be happy and confident in your clothes, since you’re the one walking around in it.
Favorite icons of fashion? I’ve always adored Audrey Hepburn; she was so classy and stylish.
Describe your personal style. I try to be clever when I dress. I like to mix patterns, styles or colors. I like little subtleties in outfits, it’s like a surprise that you may not notice until you take a second look.
Do you have a personal style quirk? I hate when an outfit looks like it took work. Outfits that look effortless, or thrown together always look better.
Who are your favorite designers? Kate Spade, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Stella McCartney, YSL, Alexander Mc Queen, James Coviello, Chloe
What is your most cherished fashion item? I love these vintage platform shoes I have. I don’t wear them as often as I like because I don’t want to wear them out, the platform has fallen off twice, but I just use shoe glue.
What do you feel best wearing? Dresses.
What is the first thing you see in another persons outfit? I look at how they incorporate the different pieces.
What is a fashion rule you always break? I love to mismatch. Matching is overrated.
What is a fashion rule you never break? Having rules is work. All of the typical fashion rules like don’t wear white shoes after labor day I’ve broken.
An item you will never be caught wearing? I don’t like things that look too gaudy, or shirts that just say the brand on them– I don’t get why anyone would want to be a walking billboard.
Who do you dress to impress? I dress to impress myself, so that I  feel good in what I’m wearing.
What are your favorite stores? I shop mostly at vintage stores. I can always find something at Bows and Arrows. I like the shoe store DSW in Roseville
What do you splurge on? Rainboots and Kate Spade bags, they’re investments. I wear them year after year.
Guilty pleasure in fashion? I love Kate Spade. Since high school I’ve used one of her diaper bags as a backpack. Her items are always clever, timeless, and they last.
Do you have a signature cologne or fragrance? I have two perfumes, Ja’dore Dior and Kate Spade but I don’t wear either daily.
Favorite fashion magazine or publication? I like Nylon, but I don’t buy magazines myself, so I’m prone to read my mom’s subscriptions of Vogue, W, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle. I really don’t know why she gets so many subscriptions!
Favorite restaurant? I like Sunflower drive in, Andy Nguyen’s, and Queen Sheba’s
Favorite band? I don’t really have a favorite band, but I’m really enjoying the new 90’s radio station 106.5. They play all of the nineties without any bias. I love how they’ll play Coolio followed by Alanis Morrisette. It’s hilarious and amazing.

Grondona, Italy

July 22, 2009

Ok so I thought I was done, but realized that I forgot to post some of my favorite pics from the tiny town of Grondona, where Gianni’s sister and her husband live, along with our niece and her husband. I promise these are the last of my vacay photos. I hope you have enjoyed them. Sac street style coming up! I have so much to post.

I had never seen a raspberry bush before.

Joakim and friends

France was great and so were these teens. Notice on Joakim his popped collar and straw fedora hat. He was so charming. His friends wanted me to take thier picture as well and I couldn’t resist – they are all so cute. As I was waving goodbye to them Joakim shouted in his French accented English, ‘I love you!’ To which I replied, ‘okay!’ So adorable.

Samantha was the proprietor of the other used clothing store in our Genova neighborhood. Her store is called Che’rie, and it is also a consignment store with clothing from the 1980s to now. From her I bought a gorgeous pair of Salvatore Ferragamo sunglasses from the mid nineties, which were only twenty euro. They are actually the nicest pair of sunglasses I have ever owned and they are so nineties chic!

She is rocking boyfriend jeans with platform heels and a cropped leather vest that she made herself.  I saw her a few times over the extent of our visit and she always looked great yet different from most of the other Italian girls I checked out.
