Boutique Beat – Strutz Jewelers

December 8, 2008

I am a local business slut! Having been raised in a very small community, I know the difference between small town service, and big box business practices. Especially when I am purchasing something expensive, I just don’t have patience for supposed experts who aren’t able to spend time with me or thoroughly answer my questions. When it comes to jewelry I learned a long time ago that if I ever needed vintage jewelry appraised, watches fixed or ideas for an engagement ring (as it turned out) there was no where in town with better service and more knowledge than Strutz Jewelers.

Mr. Strutz has decided to retire at the ripe age of 93, so his daughter and proprietor of his business, Marja Strutz is closing up shop – the antiques will stay, the jewels must go. Most of the jewelry in the store is 50% to 70% off and they have a wonderful selection of diamond, pearls and semi-precious stone jewelry. After about ninety minutes of looking at every case twice and fondling pretty much every ring in the place,  I decided on a pair of 14 karat gold pearl and ruby earrings for myself, which were 70% off of $350 – $118 out the door. A major steal and they are so sweet, like candy!

If jewelry is on a loved ones wish list this year, if you have expensive taste like me ( I can’t help it – uh, I have sensitive skin), and most importantly in the effort to shop local this holiday season, be sure to stop into Strutz Jewelers. They will close the jewelry shop on December 23 so get on over there! You will be so impressed with Marja’s knowledge of her product, the time she is willing to spend with you and the screaming deals at this long standing local business.

  1. you rock babe! what a nice, fluid article

  2. Good to know. For some reason, I assumed that place was just another con-man pawn shop. I’ll have to check it out if my lady ever gets a taste for the hard stuff.

  3. Marja Strutz was my landlord many years ago! I spend several afternoons browsing the cases in that shop back then, and will most definately make a trip over there before they close! Thanks for this post, Jen. I love the earrings you scored.

  4. OMG, those earings are to die for! I’m so sad this place is closing – I’ll definitely go check it out!
