Not too long ago I was browsing down J Street looking for a new purse because I actually do need a new black standby, when I found the store I had wanted to check out was closed. Bummer! So to kill the 20 minutes I had before the “be back at 4:20″ store unlocked its doors, I went up the steps of the Victorian house turned into four storefronts. I had never been into French Cuff Consignment before and obviously now was the perfect time to check it out.

I was pleasantly surprised by the stock in the store because you never know what kind of things you will find in a consignment store. One of the best parts of the small boutique was the super-sweet and engaging lady behind the counter. She was ready to offer her opinion which I thought to be honest, as she didn’t give the impression she was desperate to make a sale. There were some incredibly tacky things in this store (we all know that one persons trash is another persons treasure) so you will have to sift through the selection of clothes, purses, accessories and random french stuff to find the treasure you seek. Also if you are down to consign some of your own stuff this would be a great alternative to chain stores such as Crossroads for two major reasons – first keep it local and support homegrown business and second, this is a prime J street locale.

I was stoked to find a super cute 1950′s era pair of black and white faux diamond drop earrings for the bargain price of $12! So cute and retro. You must do yourself a favor and be sure to stop in to French Cuff Consignment next time you are browsing midtown.
